Letters/Packages

Nothing is better than a hand-written letter—especially if it includes pictures, drawings, and stories—but be disciplined in what you include. President Hinckley gives some advice when it comes to letter writing: “Missionaries love to hear from home, especially from close friends. What makes it tough to concentrate is what is contained in the letters. Write about their mission. Share personal missionary experiences you are having at home. Write about insightful things you’ve learned in the scriptures. It’s all right to write about home; just don’t dwell on it. If you are focused on his mission, he will be too.”

Update on September 30, 2013

Zac forwarded an email that was sent to him on special instructions on packages. It was all in Spanish so hopefully I translated it correctly. Basically it said that we need to write a number on the package that is sent to him with instructions saying that Elder Caceres has  authority to pick up your package.

The exact wording you would use is:

“Luis Caceres con numero de documento N° (put the number of the package here without the parenthesis) está autorizado para que cuando llegue a Posadas él pueda sacar el paquete de mi hijo/nieto/hermano/amigo (depending on what relationship you are to Zac), Elder Zac Thayn”.

Then you need to email Zac and let him know the package number and he in turn will give that information to Elder Caceres. Elder Caceres says, that will solve problems in picking up the packages and the only other problem he’ll have will be getting it from Argentina to Paraguay.

The address he gave was a bit different then what the Mission President gave us (shown above) the only big difference is that we write out the city and providence on the one above instead of just the postal code shown below.

Pouch Mail

1st Way - Directly to Church Headquarters

The pouch provides a cheap and reliable mail service to many places where receiving mail is difficult, but be warned! Sometimes, the pouch service can take a LONG TIME and any letters that do not meet the requirements will be returned. The service does not accept envelopes or packages. In order to use the pouch, you have two options: either write a postcard or write a letter on one side of a single sheet of printer paper. If using a piece of paper, fold it into thirds, fastening the top with tape and placing a stamp in the top right corner. Address the sheet to church headquarters:

2nd Way - www.dearelder.com

The Pouch Department only sends one package per week to each mission. The deadline on the DearElder website to submit a pouch letter is 12 midnight (MST) on Sundays, which is technically 12am on Monday morning. We print, process, and deliver your letters to the Pouch Mail center in Salt Lake by 9am on Monday. The letters are sorted by mission and mailed out on Tuesdays.

We are aware of all the pouch mail regulations, including no envelopes, tri-folding, tabbing closed, etc. We follow all the pouch mail regulations, as outlined by the LDS Church.

The process for writing a letter to a pouch country is very simple.

Go to our home page. In the drop-down menu, select the Argentina Posadas mission and click, "Write Letter".

Fill in the required information and write your letter. When you are finished, click send.

If you sign up for a DearElder.com account, you can access and print your letters after you have sent them. Just make sure you log in before you write each letter.
